MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel presently benefit from a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been fulfilling with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a variety of small companies in Cornwall currently make money from utilized cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this type of industry going it does require just a little bit of lift which comes in the form of tax inevitable."

Biodiesel is a mix of diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
